Geodemographic Tools for Target Marketing

Ccome and see for yourself what two new geodemographic tools can do for your business.  Simply Map, a product of Geographic Research Inc. is a web-based mapping application that enables non-technical users to create professional-quality thematic maps, tables and reports using powerful demographic, business and marketing data.  Local Market Audience Analyst, formerly known as Lifestyle Market Analyst, is now an electronic resource produced by Standard Rate & Data (SRDS) and Nielsen Claritas.  Use it to find data for a variety of household lifestyle behaviors and traits based on Claritas PRIZM characteristics.  The features and capabilities of these powerful tools will be demonstrated.  While these tools are most helpful when marketing to consumers, businesses of all types are sure to find many practical applications.

DSBC Nonprofit Network Event

The Duke Street Business Center at Lancaster Public Library serves as the host for a free quarterly Nonprofit Network Event for leaders of local nonprofit organizations.  This event will begin at 3:00pm with attendee introductions followed by a 45 minute presentation on the topic of Social Enterprise and the Nonprofit Organization.  Our speaker, Mary Ellen Farber, CEO of Nonprofit Success Consulting defines social enterprise as "any earned-income business or strategy undertaken by a nonprofit for the purpose of generating revenue in support of the nonprofit's social mission."  During her presentation, she will give examples of nonprofit social enterprises and discuss how your organization may be able to benefit from this type of income generator.  She will also discuss the pros, cons and tax laws considerations.  The event will conclude with both a brief agency highlight and an informal time to network with other nonprofit colleagues.

The Library System of Lancaster County and the Business Services Team of the PA CareerLink of Lancaster County are collaborating on providing career planning seminars in public libraries throughout the county from September through December 2009.  This 90-minute seminar, "Personal Career Planning: Getting from Here to There," covers the top 100 hot jobs in Lancaster County; WorkKeys and the Ready2Work process; how the WIN score relates to the job you are seeking; explores the free pre-employment skill training that is available at the PA CareerLink of Lancaster County.  Contact each individual library to register for the class of your choice.

Food For Profit
Food for Profit will take you step-by-step through the entrepreneurial process.  This one-day overview will provide the information and skills to assess if your idea has the potential to generate profitable sales.  Conducting a feasibility study, performing marketing research, and drafting a business plan are a few of the concrete tools offered in this class.  In addition, sanitarians will explain in detail, what is needed to create safe, legal food products in Pennsylvania.  By attending this class, you can learn how to evaluate the opportunities on paper before you look for funding or take action.  Day includes tour of the Lancaster Edibles Venture Kitchen, a local commercial kitchen available for your use.  Class will be held at the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center Mount Joy Campus, 432 Old Market Street, Mount Joy, PA.  For further information or to register for the seminar, contact: Kim Patrick, 717-475-7196 or kpatrick@lcctc.org.  Registration fee of $35 covers cost of all materials and lunch.
