The Library System is pleased to announce the addition of BookFlix, online story videos for children! The Library System of Lancaster County is pleased to announce the addition of BookFlix™, an early literacy online resource for children, to their array of online services. BookFlix™ is an interactive reading & learning resource for preschoolers, kindergartners, and primary grade children. An official launch for the new online resource with Senator Mike Brubaker will be on Thursday, October 1 at 10:00 am at the Leola Branch Library, 40 Hillcrest Road, Leola, PA 17540. The event is free and open to the public! BookFlix™, may be accessed at your local public library or through local library websites. This engaging resource for grades PreK-3 will help early readers develop and practice essential reading skills and introduces students to a world of knowledge and exploration. Additionally, the BookFlix™ resources meet all of the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. Senator Mike Brubaker, an advocate for early literacy, supported the Library System of Lancaster County in obtaining a Department of Community and Economic Development grant that funded the new service. “This new program will be a vital resource to help promote reading and education for young people in Lancaster County,” Brubaker said. “Reading is the foundation of a child’s education and I am thankful that Lancaster County children will benefit from this innovative online program.” BookFlix™ pairs together classic children's animated video picture storybooks with true fact non-fiction e-Books. Your child can first watch a story and then have related book read aloud to them or choose to practice reading the book on their own. Choose from nine (9) exciting categories: Fun and Learning; Animals and Nature; Earth and Sky; People and Places; Music and Rhyme; Family and Community; ABCs and 123s; Adventure; Imagination; and Celebrations. Also Included are 21 Spanish storybook video and book pairs. Animated storybooks are from Weston Woods, and the e-Books are from Scholastic, Inc. According to education professionals, “BookFlix deserves an A+ for not only introducing this format to preschool and elementary students, but also for providing reinforcement of reading skills through wonderful videos and outstanding book pairs.” This project was financed by a grant by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development. BookFlix™ supports non-readers, beginning and reluctant readers and is perfect for group reading activities, as well as independent reading practice at school and a home!
